Cherryville, PA – Addiction can affect everyone in one way or another from a parent, sibling, grandparent, or friend. When it does, there is plenty of help for the addicted individual for treatment and recovery. The question is, “Where is the help for the family to recover?” Like the addict the family needs help.
Through their community outreach, Bethany Wesleyan Church is opening their doors to the public to learn about the dynamics which happen with addiction not only for the addict but also for the family. The program is entitled, “Family Wellness Program, Understanding Addiction & Recovery” and is conducted by Mike Rowe from Addiction Prevention Strategies. Mike will provide a comprehensive look at what happens to the family when addiction becomes part of their lives and what can be done to help them understand and recover.
Addiction Prevention Strategies began in 1999 with Mickey Rowe. Mickey, a top executive with the IBM Corporation and a member of famous band “The Jesters” (circa 1960), found himself unemployed after losing his job due to alcoholism. Mickey entered treatment at the Caron Foundation (http://www.caron.org/) in 1980 and after treatment never drank again. He realized families were suffering and no one was addressing their needs. There were so many programs for the addicted but nothing for the families. He presented his program to businesses and industries and began pilot programs with two of the largest employers in Berks County, Pennsylvania. While in the early stages of APS, Mickey became ill and unable to continue his work.
Nine years later, Mike Rowe, Mickey's son, resurrected and restructured his father’s unique family education program. He found a real need in helping families in churches. When Mike initially introduced the Family Wellness Program to fifteen churches, fourteen out of the fifteen signed up to do the program, because the pastors realized the desperate need for education and support for the families that were impacted by addiction.
“Through our Family Wellness Program conducted through the education systems with churches and synagogues, we are able to educate families in understanding addiction, enabling, the importance of detachment, as well as setting boundaries. We are also able to help families to get loved ones into treatment in a loving and respectful way.” shared Mike Rowe.

Bay Area filmmaker and model, Ari Fitz, is one of not seven, but twelve, roommates on what may be the final season of MTV’s longest running reality series. Set in San Francisco, this season is also the first time producers of the series have altered its format.
“The show’s been produced by Bunim-Murray Prods. for 21 years now,” said Ari Fitz. “I went into the house thinking I knew what to expect but, as everyone will see in January, there’s no way that I could have been prepared for what happened while filming.”
With less than 24 hours notice, Fitz moved out of her Oakland home and into The Real World house with 6 other people. During the season, the cast returned from a vacation to discover that producers had invited and moved the cast’s exes into the house without notice.
Similar to past iterations of The Real World, this season will feature its share of roommate brawls, clubs, alcohol, and hot hookups. Still, Fitz hopes audiences will recognize a never-before-seen authenticity in The Real World: Ex-Plosion.
“We’d all heard rumors that this might be the last season. It was iimportant to me to be as transparent, as authentically me, as possible - as though it was my last opportunity to do so,” said Ari Fitz. “I made films. I modeled. I partied. I loved. I was human. Some people will get me and say, ‘Yes! I knew I wasn’t the only one!’ Others may hate me. It’s reality television. You prepare yourself for that.”

SANTA MONICA, October 21, 2013 – The City Shakespeare Company is on a mission to re-define what you think of one of Shakespeare’s most famous (and currently most popular) works, Macbeth. They open their production on October 31st near downtown Santa Monica, in a storage space behind an empty art gallery.
Allison Volk and Brooke Bishop, co-founders of the company, were very intentional as they searched for this space. “All our shows are site-specific, meaning we choose the space according to what the text calls for. We wanted something raw to match the gut-wrenching subject matter,” writes Volk, who plays Lady Macbeth.
Unlike many productions with large casts, City Shakes is an ensemble of seven actors who play two, three or four characters. Jose Espinosa plays Banquo and the Porter. He says, “This company is unique because we try out every idea, entertain many things, and we’re not afraid of transforming Shakespeare into something different and new and modern.”
Indeed, the mission of City Shakes is to bring Shakespeare to the 21st century in a way that is accessible and “this production puts these iconic characters into a recognizable, modern context,” states Spencer Paez, who plays Malcolm and Fleance. “We’re holding a mirror up to the darker parts of human nature and inviting them to ask themselves some deep questions about hidden motivations,” says Colin Martin, the actor playing Macbeth himself.
“What would it take for you to kill? Do you have it in you? That’s what our production asks. The ability to relate to the most evil-seeming deeds is what terrifies us as artists,” adds Bishop, the show’s director. One thing’s for sure: you won’t leave this performance without goosebumps on the back of your neck, and that’s a promise.

The 40s have been exposed as the dangerous decade for Australians, as the likelihood for traumatic illnesses rises significantly in middle age, according to startling new research from Asteron Life.
Asteron Life’s research revealed that alarmingly, over two thirds of trauma insurance claimants (68%) are in their 40s - a massive jump from only 5 per cent for people in their 30s.
“Our research revealed that Aussies typically begin to develop chronic medical conditions in their 40s. These include the middle-age onset of serious diseases like cancers, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and multiple sclerosis (MS).
"The 40s is when our bodies are not as well-equipped to cope with everyday pressures compared to the 20s and 30s,” Mark Vilo, Executive Manager, Asteron Life said.
“Generally people in their 40s also have a high level of financial responsibility, such as mortgages, kids and aging parents. Such heavy financial commitments are difficult to maintain if you’re also battling a critical illness - emotionally, physically and financially,” Mr Vilo said.
The number of babies born to 40-plus mums has doubled in the last decade (12,805 babies in 2011 versus 7,100 in 20014), meaning the financial drain of kids is only just beginning - not ending.
The average weekly wage for 40-somethings is $1,0465 and the average cost of raising a child is $2276 per week - representing around a quarter of your income.
“There is a new financial burden on families in their 40s, as reflected in changed social norms like delaying children till later in life,” Mr Vilo said.
The Asteron Life research also uncovered a high proportion of Aussies letting their trauma insurance lapse just before they’re statistically most likely to need it. The average age of insurance cover lapsing is 44, and the average age of claim is 49 years.
“We urge Australians to have insurance protection, particularly during the ‘danger decade’ of their 40s. Fighting a serious disease is one thing, but not having a financial plan to maintain your lifestyle while you recover is another.
Imagine losing your income for a long period of time while trying to cope with a traumatic illness, or not having any insurance to fill that gap,” Mr Vilo said.
“Having life insurance is just as important as home and car insurance. When you protect your capacity to earn an income, you protect your ability to keep a roof over your family’s head and your kids in school."

本製品は、ケースに取り付けられたゴムバンドを利用して、細かいガジェットやアクセサリーを固定して持ち歩くことができる「GRID-IT!」を標準装備したタブレット用インナーケースです。前面には面ファスナーのかぶせが付いたポケットが付います。iPad AirやiPad mini RetinaなどのタブレットPCが収納でき、かぶせ付でタブレットPCが飛び出る心配がなく、面ファスナーなので出し入れも素早く簡単にできます。背面には「GRID-IT!」を装備しており、縦横に走る特殊なゴム糸を使ったゴムバンドでしっかりとガジェット類を固定します。ベースが固く厚みがあるので反れにくく、たくさんの小物をはさんでも型崩れしにくくなっています。タブレットと周辺ガジェットを一度に整理整頓して収納できて、乱雑にバラバラになっていたカバンの中もすっきりします。また、使いたい時には収納しているところが目に見えるので、すぐに取り出せる優れものです。
三菱重工グループのPWパワーシステムズ(PW Power Systems,Inc.:PWPS)は、アルジェリア国営の電力・ガス会社であるソネルガス(Sonelgaz Spa)から、出力2万5,000kWのガスタービン発電機「FT8(R) MOBILPAC(R)(FT8モービルパック)」(米国登録商標)20ユニットを受注しました。夏の電力需要のピークに対応するため、すべて2014年前半に納入する計画です。
今回のガスタービン発電機は、ソネルガスの子会社であるSPE(La Societe Algerienne de Production de Electricite)が運営するアルジェリア国内4ヵ所の発電所に供給されるものです。具体的には、首都アルジェ近郊の2ヵ所と同国中央部および東部の各1ヵ所向けで、いずれも堅調な経済成長に伴い増加する電力需要に対応することとなります。
